Guinea Forest Information and DataAccording to the U.N. FAO,26.6% or about 6,544,000 ha of Guinea is forested, according to FAO. Of this 1.0% ( 63,000 ) is classified as primary forest, the most biodiverse and carbon-dense form of forest. Guinea had 93,000 ha of planted forest.
Change in Forest Cover: Between 1990 and 2010, Guinea lost an average of 36,000 ha or 0.50% per year. In total, between 1990 and 2010, Guinea lost 9.9% of its forest cover, or around 720,000 ha.
Guinea's forests contain 619 million metric tons of carbon in living forest biomass. Biodiversity and Protected Areas: Guinea has some 998 known species of amphibians, birds, mammals and reptiles according to figures from the World Conservation Monitoring Centre. Of these, 0.6% are endemic, meaning they exist in no other country, and 3.4% are threatened. Guinea is home to at least 3000 species of vascular plants, of which 2.9% are endemic. 0.2% of Guinea is protected under IUCN categories I-V.

| Economy - overview: |
Guinea possesses major mineral, hydropower, and agricultural resources, yet remains an underdeveloped nation. The country possesses almost half of the world's bauxite reserves and is the second-largest bauxite producer. The mining sector accounted for over 70% of exports in 2004. Long-run improvements in government fiscal arrangements, literacy, and the legal framework are needed if the country is to move out of poverty. Fighting along the Sierra Leonean and Liberian borders, as well as refugee movements, have caused major economic disruptions, aggravating a loss in investor confidence. Panic buying has created food shortages and inflation and caused riots in local markets. Guinea is not receiving multilateral aid. The IMF and World Bank cut off most assistance in 2003. Growth rose slightly in 2005, primarily due to increases in global demand and commodity prices on world markets. |
